Diablo 4 Gear Priorities for Lightning Spear Explained U4GM

More Lightning Spears on screen do not necessarily mean faster clears in Diablo 4. The Season 16 PTR build described here removes the former limit on active Spears, which makes cast frequency worth examining before you invest in Diablo IV Items for a new setup. The practical question is whether additional casts keep dealing useful damage throughout a fight, rather than merely filling the screen.

Measure casts against clear time

Begin with your existing Sorcerer setup and choose a dungeon or event you can repeat. Keep the activity and your approach as consistent as practical, then record enough detail to explain the result. A single fast run can be misleading if enemy groups behave differently from one attempt to the next.

Record the clear time for each run rather than relying on memory.
Note how often you can cast Lightning Spear during sustained combat.
Mark moments when cooldowns interrupt your rotation.
Keep a separate note for encounters that end unusually quickly.

Compare several runs before deciding that a setup is better. If cast frequency rises but clear times stay similar, the extra Spears may not be reaching useful targets, or another part of the build may be limiting progress. That result is still valuable because it can prevent spending resources on an upgrade that does little for your preferred activity.

Choose between cooldown recovery and attack speed

Cooldown recovery and attack speed can both affect how smoothly the build plays, but changing them together makes the result difficult to interpret. Try a modest increase in cooldown recovery first, repeat the same activity, and compare the notes with your original runs. Then return to the original setup and evaluate attack speed separately.

Look beyond the fastest individual attempt. A change that produces a similar clear time with fewer stalled rotations may feel more dependable, while a faster rotation can be less useful if it leaves your defenses or positioning awkward. Keep the option that improves the fights you actually struggle with, not just the one that produces the busiest screen.

Watch what happens after a cast

A dense group offers a useful view of sustained casting, but it cannot answer every question. Enemies may fall before a projectile reaches them, and scattered targets can make the same rotation feel less effective. Include tougher enemies that survive long enough to observe the Spears traveling, striking, and disappearing.

During those encounters, focus on what changes between the moment you cast and the moment damage lands. These observations can help distinguish a frequency problem from a target-selection or positioning problem.

Watch for projectiles reaching enemies after the immediate group has already fallen.
Notice whether moving enemies pull the fight away from your preferred position.
Check whether defensive skill use leaves enough room for regular casts.
Compare sustained pressure against a durable target with your performance against groups.

If the build performs well only against tightly packed enemies, consider that limitation before treating the result as representative. A setup with slightly fewer casts may be the better choice when it lets you stay in range and maintain pressure safely.

Keep PTR spending flexible

Test conditions can change before launch, so an early result is a reason to investigate rather than a guarantee of the final build. Favor adjustments you can compare clearly and avoid replacing every part of your setup at once. That makes it easier to identify which change helped if later updates alter how the skill performs.

Before deciding to buy Diablo 4 Items, check whether your repeatable runs show a clear need for a particular improvement. If the main problem is missed projectiles or unsafe positioning, practice and a different skill arrangement may be more useful than additional gear.
