u4gm POE 2 How to Plan Ascendancy and Weapon Skills Guide

Patch 0.4.0 in Path of Exile 2 feels like the first time the beta's stopped "nudging numbers" and started changing how the game actually plays, and if you're the kind of person who lives in endgame testing sessions (or reads way too many build chats on U4GM), you'll notice it fast: curses, Ascendancies, and the whole combat cadence got reworked in ways that push you to rethink your plan instead of just swapping one support gem.

Curses and Ascendancy Choices Feel Looser

The big talking point is what's happened around curse stacking, especially with curse-linked Ascendancy nodes like Doomed Pain. Before, you'd run into that global curse limit and it felt awful. You'd line up the "right" debuff, try to add another, and watch your own setup overwrite itself. Now that Doomed Pain doesn't count toward the cap, the door opens. You can keep your core curse running and still layer extra pressure where it matters. Bossing changes because you're not wasting casts, and party play changes because supports aren't accidentally stepping on the DPS player's toes. You'll see more deliberate teamwork, not just everyone spamming effects and hoping it sticks.

Melee Gets Breathing Room on Mana

Melee and weapon builds also got a quality-of-life win that's bigger than it sounds. Hammered to Perfection making certain weapon skills cost zero mana means you're not playing "damage, then panic." No more awkward moments where you're in the pocket, the boss is mid-swing, and your bar's empty. It shifts investment away from patching resource problems and back toward things you actually want, like damage uptime or defenses. It also makes weapon setups feel less punishing to test, which matters a lot in a beta where you're constantly tweaking.

Faster Loops, Fewer Dead Seconds

The rhythm of fights is quicker now, mostly thanks to cooldown reductions on morphing skills. Dropping those transformations from ten seconds to six doesn't read like a revolution, but in maps it's night and day. You're not standing around waiting for your kit to come back online. You're moving, swapping, committing, then swapping again. Add in the fix for sprint-linked attacks and the game stops trolling you. Attacking while sprinting used to be a coin flip, and that kind of inconsistency is what gets you deleted in high-tier content. With it smoothed out, mobility goes back to being a real defensive layer instead of a risky habit.

If you're planning builds after 0.4.0, it's less about chasing one huge burst window and more about keeping pressure on while staying fluid, and that's why people are suddenly testing multi-curse setups again and dusting off aggressive melee ideas that used to feel clunky; if you're farming, trading, or just trying to keep your mapping consistent, having a clear plan for PoE 2 Currency helps you pivot faster when the meta shifts mid-week.
